#YouTube's Ask button and AI in Google products

YouTube is rolling out an “Ask” button that lets you summarize or question a video through Gemini.
It isn’t available in Europe yet, so my favorite trick is still to drop the video link into NotebookLM.
Google is gradually weaving AI into its entire ecosystem (the search page, Workspace, GCP and so on). Set against how good the Gemini 2.5 and 3 models are in chat, this scattering of features has left me unimpressed so far, especially in Gmail and Google Drive, where I find the gadgets useless.
But it’s probably just a matter of time. Next year the UX should catch up with the quality of the underlying models, and make this “electrification” of their products genuinely worthwhile.
