Field notes from the AI frontier

The AI newsletters I read

--- date: · theme: think · words: 224 ---

To keep up with AI news and trends, I read a handful of newsletters every week. Here are my favorites, in two groups.

Non-technical

  1. The Neuron: a daily newsletter. Its breathless tone can grate, but it’s an efficient way to make sure you miss nothing.
  2. Ethan Mollick (One Useful Thing): a management professor at Wharton who has become a reference on how generative AI changes work. Pragmatic, thought-provoking and concrete.
  3. Benedict Evans: a former analyst at Andreessen Horowitz. His business take on tech is measured, insightful and occasionally visionary.
  4. Air Street Capital: written by the investment fund behind the excellent annual State of AI report. Very useful for tracking AI’s impact on science, industry and policy.

Technical

  1. The Batch by DeepLearning.AI: led by Andrew Ng, a towering figure in deep learning. A good balance between the big picture and deeper technical explanations.
  2. Simon Willison: a veteran software engineer who was among the first to explore generative AI for programming. He publishes a huge amount of very detailed analysis.
  3. Sebastian Raschka (Ahead of AI): an AI researcher known for his clear, rigorous explanations. He posts on no fixed schedule, but every article digs deep into how models work.
  4. Jack Clark (Import AI): cofounder of Anthropic (the company behind Claude). His angle is more about infrastructure and the policy side of AI development.

Happy summer reading.
