#Echo writing to make LLMs write like you

You let ChatGPT write your emails, but you worry that their hollow, pompous style screams “AI” from a mile away?

Try Echo Writing to force the models to write in your own voice.

Step 1: Collect samples of your writing that you’re proud of. A handy trick is to bundle them into a single PDF.

Step 2: Ask your favorite LLM to analyze it:

Attached is a sample of my own writing. Analyse the style, including my sentence structure and length, vocabulary choice, overall tone and voice.

Step 3: In your next requests, ask it to stick to that style:

Using my personal style, write a summary of the disastrous sales meeting, based on the key points below.

In principle, the answers should now sound a lot more like you.

If you want to save that style for all your future conversations:

• ChatGPT: in your account, under “Personalization > Custom instructions > How would you like ChatGPT to respond?”, paste a condensed version of the style description you got in step 2.
• Claude: better still, use the “Custom style” feature, which works from writing samples or a description.
